From the Heart of Costa Smeralda
OUR HISTORY
Our journey begins in the heart of Costa Smeralda, a living laboratory of Mediterranean ecology. Here, we learned to work in harmony with nature, creating gardens that reflect the beauty of the local landscape and thrive with minimal human intervention. Each project is born from a deep understanding of soil dynamics and microclimates, fundamental elements for the garden’s resilience and sustainability.
From Costa Smeralda to the World: Complex Ecosystems
The experience we gained in Costa Smeralda allowed us to expand our expertise globally. Today, we design gardens that integrate species from around the world, creating complex and self-sustaining ecosystems. Our direct management of the nursery allows us to select the best plants for each project, ensuring a perfect balance between aesthetics and sustainability.
Innovation and Biodiversity: The Future of Garden Design
At Orecchioni Garden Design, we embrace the most advanced techniques of Naturalistic Planting Design, combining them with our Mediterranean experience. The result is gardens that not only address modern climate challenges but also offer a unique sensory experience. With access to a global reservoir of over 75,000 species, we can create green spaces that are true masterpieces of biodiversity.
Resilient Gardens: Long-Term Beauty and Sustainability
Each garden we design is built to last, adapting to climate variations and reducing the need for maintenance. We use an advanced design system that categorizes plants by their ecological function, creating plant mixes that optimize space and promote biodiversity. Our gardens are miniature ecosystems, designed to be beautiful and sustainable, perfectly in harmony with the natural environment.
Trust Orecchioni Garden Design to transform your green space into a living work of art, a garden that embodies the perfect fusion of beauty, innovation, and respect for nature.
The Roots of a Tradition
Orecchioni Garden Design is rooted in a long family tradition that began over 50 years ago in the Liscia di Vacca area. In 1957, Dr. Mentasti Giuseppe purchased the Porto Mannu bay, which would later become Porto Cervo thanks to the involvement of Prince Karim Aga Khan. That same year, Vanni Orecchioni, a pioneer of gardening in Costa Smeralda, began planting and shaping the area in front of the port, introducing new plants and helping define the landscape we know today.
The Birth of the Consortium and the Mediterranean Garden
In 1962, with the founding of the Costa Smeralda Consortium, Prince Karim Aga Khan realized his vision of transforming Sardinia into an exclusive destination while preserving its unique landscape. The Consortium required every new property owner to adhere to strict environmental criteria, involving renowned architects such as Luigi Vietti, Jacques Couëlle, Michele Busiri Vici, and Antonio Simon Mossa. These masters of architecture introduced a style that harmonized buildings with the natural landscape, giving rise to the concept of the Mediterranean garden, respectful of native plants and the environmental context. Vanni Orecchioni managed the first nursery for the Consortium and was responsible for creating the first gardens for the villas and the green spaces around the Hotel Cervo.
The Worldwide Success of the Mediterranean Garden
In no time, the Mediterranean garden and Costa Smeralda became the most sought-after and prestigious destinations in the world. The 1,800 hectares of land were filled with new constructions and beautiful gardens, transforming the region into a symbol of luxury and beauty. By then, Vanni Orecchioni had become a master in his craft, founding his own nursery and collaborating with some of the most renowned international architects, including Englishman Jeas Thomas, with whom he worked for years. Through these collaborations, Vanni Orecchioni helped create some of the most beautiful and imitated private gardens in the world, working alongside masters like Luigi Vietti, Giuseppe Polese, and Jacques Couëlle.
Innovation of the New Generation
Since 2012, with the arrival of young landscape architect Jean Mark Orecchioni, son of Vanni and heir to a long family tradition, a new era for Orecchioni Garden Design has begun. Jean Mark, with his background in architecture and landscape design, introduced new design techniques and a modern vision, giving birth to the modern garden. Under his guidance, the company continues to evolve, combining the tradition of the Mediterranean garden with sustainable innovations and contemporary solutions, always maintaining harmony with the natural environment.
